PTA PARENT ED COMMITTEE

WE VALUE KNOWLEDGE FOR OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN

OBJECTIVE Studies show that engaging families in their student’s instructional initiatives increases their involvement in their success. Curriculum and teaching methods have significantly changed since parents were in school and many families are not prepared to help their children. This goes beyond parent involvement in the recommended curriculum night, teacher conferences, PTA, and nightly homework. This is about building a community around a student’s education needs using the same set of tools that are used by educators. The PTA Parent Ed Committee will be focused on closing this gap and creating a ‘toolbox’ for families to learn about curriculum teaching methods and strategies that are a part of their student’s education so they can better partner at home. The remaining 2016/17 remaining sessions are ADULT ONLY topics. Childcare is not available for either session. June 7: Literacy Night (Library @ 6:30 p.m.)
